Photo of the Day

Or should i call it photo of last night? This is a picture of Historic 25th street in Ogden Utah which was having the kick off of the holiday season with the Christmas Village and lighting of the Union Station Tree. Notice that the Union Station Tree can be seen in the distance is only half lit. I guess no matter how hard you try, one light will make a majority go out!

Bluebird Day

Outside of slacking on taking photos, we  have been in the clouds with snow storms in the Salt Lake region, so finally I have received an opportunity to take some pictures. This picture is of the mountain peak of Ben Lomond which is located north of Ogden, Utah. This peak is rumored to have been the inspiration and first model of the Paramount Pictures logo since the first president of Paramount was originally from Ogden.

Fallinter !?!?

Apparently we have a fifth season in northern Utah of fallinter as quoted/created by Siddharth Patel. What is Fallinter you ask, well it is a hybrid of fall and winter. During this special season everything above 6000 FT receives layers of snow becoming the quintessential winter wonderland with every below remaining in the season of fall with leaves still green.

SNOW!!!!!!!!

The winter season has begun with leaves still green and on trees in the Ogden area. The mountain view from my home office has been blocked by clouds for the past two days and it looks like they will remain for a few more.

This picture was taken at Snowbird resort along the tram line at the top of Hidden Peak. Snowbird resort has been running customer appreciation days each weekend of October where you get a tram ticket for donating a canned good or $2 to the SLC food bank. If you are in the SLC area, check it out this upcoming weekend.

Photo of the Day

This was taken at the end of the Kentucky trip on the way back to the airport. On the way to get lunch and gas for the car, I passed the Six Flags in Louisville which had an old abandoned roller coaster next to the road. This is one of the shots from this shoot.

Buckhorn Log Cathedral

This picture was taken before the rehearsal for the wedding of my friends Matt and Rachael (congrats!). This structure is the oldest and largest log cathedral in North America. The building was completed in 1928. The "Log Cathedral," listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of two remaining buildings of the original Witherspoon campus. The building was designed and financed by Edward F. Geer of Brooklyn, New York. Constructed of white oak from the mountains surrounding the valley, the church was built by local citizens and students of the school. The interior of the structure is somewhat medieval in appearance and Scandinavian in style. The high open-beam ceiling and the great spaciousness of the interior impresses visitors. The rich, natural oak finish of the walls gives warmth and identification with the church's rural, wooded surroundings. The Hook and Hastings Pipe Organ, carted over the mountains by oxen, is one of the first of its kind in the mountains of Kentucky.

Ogden Canyon

While returning from the failed fall mountain shoot, I was able to get a few shots driving through Ogden Canyon. The first one is a shot looking west in the afternoon creating the darkened canyon walls and water pipe across the canyon with a blue cloudy sky in the background. The second shot is of a waterfall that appeared from the rain storm earlier created by the runoff from the higher elevations to the canyon and into the Ogden River.

Fall colors are here. This shot was taken while returning from Snowbasin in an ill fated attempt to get some fall shots of an aspen grove which i was rained out from accomplishing. This shot was taken from the Snowbasin road heading over to the Pineview Reservoir.

Brooklyn Bridge - Created with Microsoft ICE

Many of you probably already know about the free software from Microsoft called I.C.E., but if you have not keep reading. Microsoft I.C.E. (Image Composite Editor) is a free software that allow you to do panoramic photos without having to do wide format photography. The software is very easy to use. all you have to do is start a new project, select a group of photos (they must be related to each other, meaning they have to be sequential pictures of one larger object and not random photos), and the software will analyse and stich them together. Once the software has stitched together all photos, you have additional ability to change the orientation and how the photos are paned on the screen to get better results. download this software at the following address: Microsft ICE Software

Photo was created using a series of Photos from Nikon and assembled with Microsoft ICE.

Photos of the Day

I was out taking the recycling to the recycling center a few weeks back and saw these wild sunflowers along the road. Today while running errands I decided to take my camera and get a few pictures of this field and the mountains before fall sets in.
